Silent Hill 2 Remake: How to Unlock the New Secret Ending Not in the Original

The Silent Hill 2 Remake honors its legendary roots by including all six original endings, but Bloober Team has added two brand-new conclusions that never existed in the 2001 classic: Bliss and Stillness. These endings aren’t just mere variations; they are complex “meta” secrets that require you to scour the town for new items and solve puzzles that only appear in New Game+. If you’ve already seen James leave the town or succumb to the water, these new paths offer a hauntingly fresh perspective on his psychological descent.

The “Bliss” Ending: A False Reality

The Bliss ending is perhaps the most surreal addition to the remake. It suggests a scenario where James chooses to lose himself in a drug-induced delusion rather than face the truth. To unlock this, you must find a rare substance known from the wider Silent Hill lore as “White Claudia.”

Step 1: Obtain the Rusted Key

You can only start this quest in New Game+. Head to Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama in East South Vale. Behind the counter, you will find a small safe.

  • Safe Code: 1887
  • Reward: Inside is the Rusted Key.

Step 2: Find the Small Chest (White Claudia)

Later in the game, when you reach Brookhaven Hospital, navigate to the garden area. Inside the small wooden gazebo, you will find a Small Chest. Use the Rusted Key to open it. Inside is a bottle of White Claudia.

Step 3: The Moment of Choice

Keep the bottle in your inventory until you reach the Lakeview Hotel. Once you enter Room 312 (where the VCR is), drink the White Claudia before interacting with the video tape. If you play the tape while under the influence of the substance, the “Bliss” ending will trigger immediately.

The “Stillness” Ending: The “In Water” Expansion

The Stillness ending is considered an “alternate” version of the tragic “In Water” ending. It is widely regarded as the most difficult ending to achieve because it has a strict prerequisite: you must have already completed the “In Water” ending in a previous playthrough on the same save file.

Step 1: The Key of Sorrow

Start a New Game+ (after having seen the “In Water” ending). Very early in the game, on Wiltse Road (just after passing through the first metal gate), you will see a green car.

  • Action: You must use the Chainsaw (found near the ranch at the start) to break the car’s window.
  • Reward: Inside is the Key of Sorrow.

Step 2: The Manager’s Office Safe

Progress through the game until you reach the Lakeview Hotel (Otherworld). Go to the Manager’s Office. You will find a safe that requires both a key and a code.

  • The Key: Use the Key of Sorrow.
  • The Code: 314
  • Reward: Inside the safe is the Toluca Postcard.

Step 3: Reaching the End

To trigger the Stillness ending, simply finish the game as you normally would while carrying the Toluca Postcard in your inventory. This item acts as a final anchor for James, leading to a modified and even more somber version of his final moments.

Summary of New Game+ Requirements

Because these endings are exclusive to the remake’s New Game+ mode, you can actually hunt for both sets of items in a single run. However, the game will prioritize the ending based on whether you consumed the White Claudia or if you are simply holding the Postcard at the final boss.
