FromSoftware has always had a penchant for testing a player’s faith, and in Elden Ring, this manifest literally through invisible walkways suspended over lethal drops. While most players are familiar with the main path, there are several “invisible” segments—some bridges, some narrow ledges—that lead to legendary sorceries, hidden bosses, and essential upgrade materials. Navigating these requires more than just luck; it requires understanding the environmental cues that the developers left behind for the most observant Tarnished.

The Mechanics of the Unseen: How to “See” the Bridge

Before venturing into the void, you need a toolkit to reveal the path. Walking blindly is a recipe for a “YOU DIED” screen. To cross these gaps successfully, use the following methods:

  • Rainbow Stones: Drop these ahead of you. If they hit a solid surface, they will glow. If they fall into the abyss and shatter with a high-pitched scream, do not move forward.
  • Hoarfrost Stomp / Spells: Using an AoE (Area of Effect) spell that touches the ground, like Hoarfrost Stomp, will leave a visual trail on an invisible floor.
  • Arrows and Bolts: Fire arrows into the air ahead of you; if they stick in mid-air, you’ve found your path.

1. The Heretical Rise Bridge (Mountaintops of the Giants)

This is the most iconic invisible bridge in the game, yet many players struggle with the “curve” at the end. It leads into the Heretical Rise tower, which is otherwise sealed by a magical barrier.

How to Navigate It

  • Starting Point: Go to the opposite side of the ravine from the tower (northwest of the Freezing Lake).
  • The Straight Path: Walk straight toward the tower. You will see faint snow particles hitting the invisible surface.
  • The Secret Turn: About 75% of the way across, the straight path ends. You must turn left and follow an invisible, upward-sloping ramp that leads to a balcony on the side of the tower.

Reward: The Founding Rain of Stars sorcery, one of the legendary spells required for the Platinum trophy.

2. Hidden Path to the Haligtree (Secret Catacombs)

While the “Hidden Path to the Haligtree” is the name of the location used to reach the Consecrated Snowfield, the actual catacombs beneath it contain a series of invisible bridges that most players skip entirely.

Finding the Void

  • Location: In the room with the giant broken circular railing, look down. There is a platform below that looks unreachable.
  • The Path: Drop down onto the invisible floor. There is a straight bridge leading to a small alcove with a Grave Glovewort [9].
  • The Second Gap: From that alcove, there is another invisible path leading to a window. Jumping through this window leads to the lever for the boss door and a chest containing the Silver Scarab (essential for farming rare items).

3. The Moonlight Altar Platforms (Ringleader’s Evergaol)

While not a “bridge” in the traditional sense, the area surrounding the Moonlight Altar (accessible only through Ranni’s questline) features several deceptive drops.

Near the Ringleader’s Evergaol, there are sections where the terrain appears to end, but invisible ledges allow you to bypass difficult enemies or reach high-tier smithing stones tucked into the cliffside. Look for “messages” left by other players; in this high-level area, they are almost always placed on these invisible extensions.

4. Crystal Woods Hidden Ledge (Liurnia of the Lakes)

Near the Academy Crystal Cave, there are subtle invisible platforms over the swamp water that lead to unique crafting materials and a vantage point for sniping the marionette soldiers. While these don’t lead to a major boss, they are vital for “no-hit” runners looking to clear the area without entering the main aggro zones.

5. Sellia Hideaway (Caelid’s Illusory Pit)

The Sellia Hideaway is famous for its illusory walls, but inside the main crystal cavern, there are “invisible” crystal spurs.

  • The Trick: When you reach the massive pit with the Crystallian bosses at the bottom, don’t just drop.
  • The Path: There are translucent, almost invisible crystal bridges connecting the upper levels. These allow you to reach a high-level chest containing the Crystal Torrent sorcery without having to fight the three-man boss squad first.

Pro-Tips for Invisible Navigation

  1. Look for Bloodstains: If you see a bloodstain floating in mid-air, a player died there. It confirms the floor is solid, but it also warns you of where the bridge ends.
  2. Volley of Glintstones: If you are a mage, the Glintstone Stars spell tracks toward the nearest solid collision. Casting it can sometimes outline the edges of a path.
  3. The Quit-Out Trick: If you feel yourself slipping off an invisible edge, quickly quit to the main menu. When you reload, the game will place you back on the last “stable” ground you stood on.
